Science: Does Air Have Weight?

Does Air Have Weight?
Enjoy and please comment:)

Equipment:
News Paper
Ruler
Your own hand

Predicting: What I think is that air does have weight because we can feel the air as it blows, but it is not the paper which is pushing the paper on the ruler it is the air.

Observing:
Mr M put a ruler under a screwed up paper and the paper flew up along with the ruler too. Next Mr M put a real flat paper on the ruler and chose a volunteer to Karate Chop the ruler so he picked Ollie. Surprising when Ollie karate chopped the ruler it snapped because of the weight of the air. Next Crighton karate chopped it but he missed so he had another go and it didn't break but did stay on the table. Liam, Cameron, Sam and Teva all had a go too. But none managed to snap it. Next Mr M had a go and he didn't break it either. Marcus had a go too but it still stayed under the paper. Wow air is really heavy. Mr M was the last person to have a go and he managed to snap the ruler. Everyone had great fun and Ollie and Mr M were the only two people to snap the ruler.

Explain:
As you put down a flat piece of paper on the ruler it is not the paper weight but the airs weight which is pushing the paper down making the ruler snap. There is also 300 pounds of weight in the air we learnt that from a video. Everyone had fun and this experiment was really enjoyable.

Wow Mr M! What a great Karate Chop.

Look at everyone's faces:)

Report On 2013

My year so far in Room 16 by Hemani Mall

My favourite thing about being in Room 16 in 2013 is being treated nicely by my classmates and being taught very well by Mr Moriarty.

Something I would like to do in term four is give Christmas cards to my class along with candy canes including Mr M and safe cycling.

Something I would like to do next year is be in a Digi class at my intermediate and play lots of sports too, so I can get a little active.

My dream jobs would be dental doctor, tennis player and scientist.

Reading

The best thing about reading so far this year is that I am kind of understanding difficult words and making sure to ask questions about things I’m not sure of in a book.

The best thing I read this year was Hatchet. I enjoyed it because it was a really interesting book and it was a book my reading group really enjoyed.

This is my favourite reading blog post that I created. I chose it because our class had a book called Kensuke’s Kingdom. It was a great book and our class decided to write a letter to the author.

This is my favourite reading post from someone else which is Henry’s. I think it is awesome because the presentation really shows the whole part of the book and I like how he has started with an introduction to show the reader what he is about to show or talk about.

Maths

The best thing about maths so far this year is that I have been improving and am learning difficult and easy strategies.

I was most proud of learning Algebra. I was proud because first when we started doing algebra I didn't know really what it was, but then Mr M told room 16 that it is finding and continuing patterns. I had a go and actually found it quite easy. It was also enjoyable and fun.

This is my favourite maths blog post Bar Graph that I created. I chose it because learning bar graphs can be useful to anything like figuring out who likes broccoli least and the most. Or who like reading in class the most or the least.

This is my favourite maths post from someone else Emma. I think it is awesome because she really enjoyed learning perimeter and area and actually improved her skills at it.

I am really good at learning different type of maths and sometimes am able to teach someone else.
I want to get better at knowing my decimals and fractions.

Writing

The best thing about writing so far this year is writing about things we watch or things we did like what we did in the holidays or watching a video then writing about it.

I was most proud of learning  the success criteria. I was proud because it made my writing improve and got right into the action. It also sometimes amazes the reader.

This is my favourite writing blog post that I created. I chose it because It really shows the story of the Taj Mahal and I really want to go there one day too. The video is great that Mr M sent us so I put it on my blog along with the post too.

This is my favourite writing post from someone else Joshua. I think it is awesome because his new puppy looks so cute and Henry also got one too. I also like the caption with the photo saying Zzz snore!

I am really good at imagining stories and then writing about them.
I want to get better at proofreading my writing and checking if I have to correct or if I have missed out any punctuation.

Integrated Topic

My favourite part of topic has been learning about India. I enjoyed it because I didn't know much about India too so we got taught lots and lots of facts and histories of India

This is my favourite topic blog post  that I created. I chose it because me and Teva were sharing each others cultures. Like I am an Indian and Teva is an European. It was fun learning about each other.

This is my favourite topic post from someone else Ellis. I think it is awesome because all those little red pieces of paper he has for the background has put a lot of effort into his art. Also I like how it is him and his super hero.

School Involvement

Volleyball,  Netball,  Road Patrol, Banker, Choir, Juices and moosies, ( cultural achiever and academic achiever I hope )
How I Have Shown PRIDE

Personal  Best: I do my best at everything in class including art. That is one thing that I am really good at.

Respect and Responsibility: I take good responsibility of my computer and my brothers while my mum and dad are gone to get something at the market and I show respect by letting people play with me.

Integrity: I am showing honesty to others by not lying but telling the truth.

Determination: I help others if they need help in class or in other places.

Enjoyment: I enjoy everything at school including learning and sports. I also enjoy being taught by the following teachers. Mrs Dalton, Mrs Riley, Mrs England, Mrs Lowe, Mrs Paki and last but not least Mr Moriarty!

Thank you for reading my Report on 2013!
Hope you enjoyed it and please comment:)

My Dot Art

Smash! I know self defense.

This is my dot art. We had to take a photo of our self, send it to Mr M, and he prints it out. Some people traced theirs but I didn't. From my skeleton art and my dot art, I chose my dot art for my calender. Please comment:)

Science: Air

What is air?

What causes air to move?

Experiment: Air Exists

Equipment: Container filled with H2O ( Water )
                    Jar
                    Paper towel

Will the paper stay dry?

Predicting: My answer is yes, because when you put the screwed up dry paper towel in the jar the wind is also trapped in the jar with the paper towel.

Observing:
When my group ( Nakita, Jessica, Ben and I) screwed up the paper towel and put it in the jar it was just a regular paper in a jar. But then the magic happens. When you turn the jar upside down and put it in the water and pull the jar back up, the paper is still dry! My whole class really enjoyed doing that.

Explain:
This science experiment has got to do with air. How it works is when you turn the jar over with the paper towel trapped inside there is also something else inside which is air. The air is like a protector for the paper towel so it does not get wet.

Neat fact:
The jar does not have a lid with it!

Glossary:

Experiment means when you a testing something to really show that it works.

Predicting means when you are told something and are going to right what you think will happen next.

Observing means when you are telling someone what you have just done like my class has just done an experience.

It worked! It actually worked. The science experiment was a success.

These pictures are of me and  pen pal's letters. The last one is my pen pal and his name is Stacy and the one in the middle and on the top are my ones. My one has two pictures because the others side of the paper had writing too. Enjoy and please comment:)

Algebra ( Continuing patterns )

Today for maths room 16 went through all of the answers to a maths task we got given for homework yesterday. I finished mine last night. The maths we are doing is called algebra. Algebra means continuing patterns. I have an example of one at the bottom. Enjoy and please comment:)

Patterns and Sequences

Each group of numbers follows a pattern. Find the patterns, and for each one write down the four next numbers. Then write the rule in brackets.

  1. 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, 33...      (+4)
